Well I saw the doctor today and found out the result from my bone marrow biopsy. It appears my bone marrow cells (or whatever they are called) have been completely replaced by my sisters cells. I.e., it looks like a successful transplant. Woo hoo! My blood levels are good too.
The other news is that I have a mild case of ‘graft vs host disease’ (GVHD) in the mouth and maybe a bit in my liver. This is actually good…apparently. I haven’t bothered with the details on why as it is too much information unrelated to computers, so I switch off when the doctor tells me what it means. However, I do know my liver is slowly getting better. My mouth is also very slowly getting better too. It is still a bit painful to eat.
The annoying news is that I will be on steroids for at least another 3 to 6 months That also means another 3 to 6 months of insulin and higher than normal blood pressure. Once the GVHD symptoms have gone the steroids and other drugs are slowly reduced over a period of some months. I guess this means it will be this time next year before I am drug free.
In the meantime I continue to practice my drums and guitar.
